Update: Wedding Trends | Hothorpe Hall
While we don’t profess to be wedding stylists, being in the business of hosting weddings we love to keep an eye on upcoming trends and inspire couples who have booked their wedding at Hothorpe Hall, as well as prospective couples, with styled photoshoots.
When we set about planning for our country house wedding photoshoot at Hothorpe Hall in June 2019, we loved seeing the classic contemporary twists we could add to a historic manor house. We wanted to achieve opulence and luxury in a venue steeped in history, which for many years was a grand family home.
The shoot took us outside to showcase the stunning backdrop of the manor house, as well as highlight how to incorporate the extensive gardens in to your big day.
Inside, we spent time in some of the most loved rooms that will feature in your wedding day at Hothorpe Hall; No. 11 the newlywed suite; the Terrace Room for nuptials; and The Langton Room set for a wedding breakfast followed by its transformation into an evening reception.
We hope our photoshoot inspires your English country house wedding…
Dorian the cabriolet beetle, courtesy of The Campervan Wedding Company looked perfectly at home in front of the manor house, with her soft blue/grey colour complementing the brighter colours in the bride’s bouquet. Despite the rain showers, our bride and groom had a great time trying to get a hole in one on 9 Hole Event Hire’s crazy golf course laid out on the manor house lawn.
The chic Jesus Peiro satin dress from award-winning Courtyard Bridal Boutique added a modern twist to the French vintage inspired newlywed suite at Hothorpe Hall. The dress was adorned with satin calla lily shaped petals on the shoulders, a low-cut front and back V neckline, as well as ultra-modern pockets; a perfect place for any bride’s lipstick!
A trend we picked up was the shift from large, decorative table centrepieces, to stunning hanging floral displays cascaded above tables, such as ours by The Bouquet Workshop which hung on a frame off the original stable beams. It seemed people were keeping it simple on the table – where, let’s face it, there’s enough going on with cutlery, glasses, wine bottles and favours – and moving it overhead.
The Bouquet Workshop chose a mixture of blue delphinium, white larkspur, pink lisianthus, ruscus and eucalyptus to create the wonderful hanging masterpiece above the top table.
Perspex featured heavily when researching upcoming wedding style trends, which some might argue is an odd fit for an English country house wedding, but being crisp and clear it added a beautiful brightness to the wedding breakfast room, as well as a modern touch. The perspex ghost chairs from Premier Events were a wonderful alternative to the chair covers typically seen in recent years and the styling by Princess Occasions saw a mix of perspex and glass through the centrepieces, table plan, charger plates and candlesticks.
In the Terrace Room, our focal point was inspired by Harry and Meghan’s floral arch from 2018’s royal wedding. We used Beautiful Arches’ silk Arwen arch which was then dressed by The Bouquet Workshop with an injection of colour through fresh flowers which included dark pink hydrangea, blue delphinium, white larkspur and pink lisianthus, as well as additional foliage in eucalyptus and ruscus.
By the time darkness came about, we’d transformed the Langton Room into an evening reception, taking away the central top table and replacing it with a dancefloor, uplighters and a DJ booth (courtesy of Premier Events). Not only is the Langton Room such a stunning space with its beams from when it was the stables, when you spend so much on decorating the wedding breakfast room, it seems a shame to then leave it behind for the evening so couples now have the choice where to party.
Hothorpe Hall is so versatile with fairly neutral decor throughout that it’d pretty much work with any style you chose for your wedding day, but we hope that our photoshoot has inspired you to adopt or develop some of these ideas further!
